Gurusikh Sabha Canada Gurdwara
Middlefield Road
Scarborough, Ontario

A Sikh temple is called a Gurdwara, doorway to the Guru. While Sikhism belief is that prayer to God can be offered at any time and anywhere, a Gurdwara is built particularly for congregation worship.

This project involved the renovation (18,471 square feet) and expansion (40,820 square feet) of an existing Gurdwara. The total construction budget was C$ 6 million.

The existing basement contained a kitchen, dining area, activity areas, and priest living quarters, while the existing ground floor is essentially a prayer room which is open plan with portable partitions. The existing building was to undergo extensive demolition particularly in the basement, requiring the installation of new services. After the initial design was costed, it was determined that the budget had been exceeded in large part due to the desired renovations. The project was scaled back to just the new construction and necessary renovation.

Clare, Randall-Smith & Associates Limited was retained to provide mechanical and electrical cost consulting services for this building. CRS also participated in value engineering sessions designed to bring the project back to budget.
